Day I: Take the morning flight to Mae Hong Son. Nestled in a deep valley and hemmed in by high mountain ranges, the town is virtually covered in mist all year round. Check into you hotel. After lunch, take an exhilarating boat-trip along the Pai River. Stop to see the unique and exotic Padong long -neck hill-tribe people at their village. The women wear brass rings around their necks and it is the custom to add a ring on, each year. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2: It's now " ride `em cowboy " time. A lhour elephant ride through lush tropical jungle will keep you on your toes. On the ride, remember to " swing with the sway. Lunch is provided. Then head on to Fish Cave where thousands of fishes, considered sacred, happily frolic in their natural habitat. Visit Wat Prathat Doi Kong Moo, right on a hill besides town. A bird's eye view of town and the surrounding country -side can be seen from this vantage point. Catch the afternoon flight back to Chiang Mai.

Day Two (08.00 Hrs): Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to the flourishing border town of Maesai and stop by at a jade carving factory. Proceed to the ancient town of Chiangsaen, which was the very first kingdom in Thailand, situated on the banks of the mighty Mekhong River. Then on to the world - renowned Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Laos,Burma meet at the confluence of the Mekhong River. Stops are also made at a Yao hill -tribe village and an Akha hill-tribe village. See the quaint, but colourfully embroideried dresses that is their daily attire. Drive back to Chiang Mai. Day 1 (07.30 Hrs): Depart Chiang Mai by minibus passing through undulating mountains and valleys, verdant woods, picturesque villages, quaint small towns and emerald green rice fields. Stop by at Chiang Dao Elephant Camp to see a demonstration of how trained elephants are used for timber work, using their tusks, powerful trunks and feet to push, pull and roll logs in unison. Proceed to Thaton, a village situated right on the banks of the Mac Kok River, where lunch is served. Then enjoy an exhilarating 3 hours boat trip (long-tail boats) on the Mae Kok River, zipping along as the breeze zaps your face. Cross rapids and arrive to Chiang Rai. Arrive to Chiang Rai and check in to a hotel for overnight accommodation.

Day 1: Arrive to Phitsaunloke by flight. Then continue to Wat Mahatat by minibus. Drive west to the Historical Park in Sukhothai where Thai history is recorded. A stop is also made at Ramkhamhaeng National Museum. Overnight at hotel.
Day 2 (08.00 hrs): Depart Sukhothai and travel north to arrive at Sri Satchanalai, know as the birth place of high-fired Thai ceramics. Visit Wat Prathat Dontao, Wat Lampang Luang and continue on to Chiang Mai via the historical town of Lamphun, known in ancient times as Haripoonchai (the kingdom of Haripoonchai). The old fortified walls and surrounding moat were constructed in the 15`h century. Arrive to Chiang Mai in the late afternoon.

Along the way, visit Lod Cave, then Fish Cave, where thousands of fishes, considered sacred, playfully frolic in their natural habitat. Arrive to Mae Hong Son and check into your hotel. Then visit 3 famous local temples. Wat Prathat Doi Kong Moo(a panoramic view of town and the surrounding country-side can been seen from this temple ),Wat Chong Kam and Wat Chong Klang. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3 (08.30 hrs): Morning breakfast. Enjoy an invigorating boat trip along the Pai river, zipping past lush tropical jungle greenery, to visit the Long -neck hill-tribe village (Padong). The many layers of brass rings worn by the women around their necks is amazing. It is for decoration as well as for belief. Lunch at a local restaurant. Catch the afternoon flight back to Chiang Mai.

Day 2 (8.30 hrs): After breakfast, drive 15 kms. to get to the Long Neck hill-tribe village (Padong). See the many layers of brass rings worn around the women's necks, both for decoration as well as for belief. Then enjoy a boat trip on the Mae-Kok River, zipping along as the warm breeze zaps your face. It's exhilarating. Along the way, stop at a Lahu hill-tribe village and a Karen hill-tribe village. Notice their primitive cultures. Arrive to Chiang Rai. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3 (08.30 hrs): . Morning breakfast, Drive to Maesai, the northern most point in the country. This bustling town lies right on our border with Burma. Visit a jade - carving factory to see craftsmen at work. Then on to the world-renowned Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Loas and Burma meet at the confluence of the mighty Mekhong River. Drive further on to the ancient town of Chiangsaen, which was the very first kingdom in Thailand, situated right on the banks of the Mekong River. It's then a pleasant drive back to Chiang Mai.

A short trek over a hill gets you to a Lisu hill-tribe village. Of all the hill-tribes, the Lisu wear the most brightly coloured clothes. Mingle with them. Spend the evening observing their habits and customs. Dinner and overnight at this village.
Day 2: After breakfast, it's a steep, strenuous 3 hours trek to the Akha hill-tribe. Lunch is served here. It's then cowboy safari time ...a memborable 2hours body-swaying elephant ride through the lush jungle to Karen hill-tribe village. Remember to "swing with the sway ".
Dinner and overnight at this village.
Day 3: Rise and shine to the sights and sounds of nature. After breakfast, it's a 3hours "Huckleberry Finn" bamboo rafting trip along the placid Mae -taeng River. Enjoy the serenity of nature and the jungle. Lunch at a River lodge. In the afternoon, a pleasant 2hours drive back to Chiang Mai.

Lying south of Chiang Mai, the granite mass of Doi Inthanon at 2,565 meters is the country's highest mountain. Designated as a national park, the splendid natural environment is habitat to a large species of birds, animals, flowers and local fauna. After a final steep climb, the summit is surprisingly flat though misty, cold and windy. A small chedi above the visitor's center contains the remains of Chao Inthawichayanon, who died in 1897, the last independent ruler of Chiang Mai before Lanna was incorporated in Siam. Some of the largest water -falls in the country are situated on this mountain. Local lunch is provided. Departure from the hotel by minibus Drive for about 1'/z hrs directly to an elephant camp, traveling south -west of Chiang Mai. Enjoy an elephant ride as you rumble and sway up and down a hill for an hour. Hang on tight. Start trekking for 20 minutes to visit a Hmong (Meo) hill -tribe village. Trek down -hill for 30 minutes to meet the minibus. Drive to a Shan village. It's now lunch -time. After lunch, continue to a Karen hill-tribe village. There is a cool, refreshing waterfall for you to relax and swim in. Drive to a bamboo rafting camp for a lhour rafting trip on the Mae Wang river. After that, turn left and drive to The west for about 1'/z hours to visit a Shan village. Stop for lunch. After lunch, continue on a rough road to get to the point where the trek starts. A 20minute trek up-hill gets you to a Hmong (Meo) hill -tribe village. Then it's a 21/2 hours trek up and down hills through the jungle, passing rice fields, water buffaloes, cows and other wild animals, to finally arrive to a Karen hill-tribe village. Rest and relax. It is then dinner time.

Day 2 (09.00 hrs): Breakfast. Departure from the village. Trek for an hour to an elephant camp where it will be "ride `em cowboy" time. Enjoy an elephant ride for 1'/zhours as you rumble and sway your way into lush, tropical jungle. Then trek up and down hills for another 1'/zhours where salvation awaits you ...a cool, refreshing, blessed waterfall. Relax, swim and soak in the sights and sounds of nature, while your guide cooks lunch. After lunch it's a down -hill trek (thank heavens) following the stream for 1'/zhours to arrive to the point where the truck is parked. Board the truck for the rafting camp. It's now a summer dream "Huckleberry Finn" bamboo rafting trip as you glide blissfully on the placid river for an hour while serene emptiness and solitude surrounds you. The truck will be awaiting your arrival at the end of this trip. Drive back to Chiang Mai to arrive at approximately 5.00 - 6.00 pm. | | |
